Running and Biking Events

Throughout the year, there are a variety of sports and sporting events to participate in. Ellicottville and the surrounding communities have some of natures finest hills, roads and scenery. Many of the venues in the area host athletic compeitions as well as recreational sports. There are 5K, 6 mile runs, road course cycling, mountain bike races, duathlons, trail runs and more for kids and adults. There are also some challenging mud runs that test your athleticism, endurance and allow you to have a little fun too! The following page outlines some events during the following year for Running Events, Mountain Bike Events and Cycling Events*.

2016 RUNNING EVENTS

2016 ALLEGANY ADVENTURE RUN

DATE: May 7, 2016 - 9:30 AM First start time

There are 3 Course distances to choose from in the beautiful rolling forest trails of Red House area in the Allegany State Park’s Art Roscoe Trail System. The start, finish and registration is at the Summit Trail Head in the Red House area of the park. The event is rain or shine. Each participant can choose the course that best suits his or her fitness level. The courses feature hundreds of feet of elevation changes on the wide rolling non-technical trails of the Art Roscoe Trail System. They are all challenging courses in a great scenic state park setting. There are awards givin out to 3-deep in all age groups plus overall 22K M/F & Masters, post race cookout, party, great door prizes & snacks in an amazing wilderness setting. The event is organized by Heartrate Up.

Age groups Male / Female : 19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+.

T-shirts to first 150 and as they last on race-day. The 22K event is part of the Eastern Grip Trail Running Series.

More information to come on the 2016 race: (The 2014 Dirty Duathlon and 4-Mile Dirty Bit Trail Run are two separate events that start at the Holiday Valley Mountain Sports Center in scenic Ellicottville, NY. The events provide a challenging and thrilling day of off-road competition in Western New York! All guts with performance demanding trails that include a 620' vertical climb per lap, gnarly single track with roots, rock gardens and white-knuckle downhills. Get ready for a monster course and one major day of work and fun! This course is amazing and promises some challenging terrain and an amazing day of off-road competition!)

THE 2016 MUDSLIDE OBSTACLE TRAIL RUN


DATE: June 48, 2016 at 10 am

There will be 5.4 mile course, a 3.5 mile run and a kids run. The event will start at 10AM from Spruce Lake. A ride to the start on the Spruce Lake chairlift is included in the entry fee. Spectators may ride for $5. The course goes from Spruce Lake, across the cross country trails to the top of Eagle, down Woodstock, across Explorer to Morning Star then through the woods and across Mardi Gras, down Holiday Run to Edelweiss and finish at the Training Center. Several obstacles to help you get very muddy will be along the trail and the final challenge is a giant mud slide down lower Yodeler. Your medal will be awarded at the finish line. The post-race party starts at 1:00 with hot dogs, beer, music and fun. A bag check is available at the Yodeler Lodge. After your run you can shower under the snowguns and changing facilities will be available. The race is limited to 1,200 competitors. There are fun activities for Friday night and you can pick up your race pack from 5 to 8 PM. Make a fun weekend and stay overnight.

2015 EVL TRAIL RUN

DATE: July 26, 2015 at 9:00 am for 12 - miler and 9:20 am for 4-miler!


The EVL 9+ mile  and the 4-mile course feature challenges for every runner. Holiday Valley Resort and the NY State forest provide great terrain for the ultra run. There is good protection under the trees from heat and rain. The terrain can be challenging, so runner should train properly and be prepared for anything!

The 4-Mile course is a wild trek that demands 100% of the runner's attention, featuring just over a 600' elevation to the top of the first climb. The course is a single track with rock gardens, tight, twisty trails to/from the Holiday Valley Mountain Sports Center.

The blockbuster 9+ Mile course is a wicked version that will kick up your adrenaline and push your body to the limit. The course starts and finishes at the Mountain Sports Center at Holiday Valley Resort.  Runners cross into NY State Forest Land which includes miles and miles of manicured single track, rock gardens, challenging climbs and descents plus a few gravel road recovery sections. There are three water/energy stops to help keep you fueled during the event (some self-serve stations). The course has clear markings help make the EVL 9 the race of the season for many. The 9+ Miler is an intermediate/advanced level calibur run that will demand sure footedness, attention to all terrain and proper training. The main competition is you on the course and who will win!


The events are rain or shine, with the thick forest cover providing terrific protection. There is a fun post-race party featuring lunch, great door prizes and DJ at the Mountain Sports Center. The first 300 entrants receive a T-shirt. There are award for Male/Female and Masters Male/Female for each event! The event is run be Heartrate up.

2015 FALL FESTIVAL 5K

DATE: October 10, 2015

This 5K race is part of the Annual Fall Festival celebration in Ellicottville, New York. The Fall Festival 5K Run kicks off from Holiday Valley and covers a 3.1Mile (5K) route around the outskirts of Holiday Valley and local roadways during Fall Festival Weekend.  The 5K course is a terrific challenge as runners compete for age group awards in this traditional kickoff to Fall Festival Weekend.  Get ready to burn some calories and test yourself during one of the most exciting weekend's in Ellicottville with thousands of guests celebrating the beautiful fall season! Terrific views of the fall landscape and a fun, action-packed kickoff to the weekend prove Fall Festival is an annual destination.  A fun post-race party at the Mountain Sports Center promotes great conversation, new friends and a terrific array of door prizes & awards.

2015 EVL HALF MARATHON, 5K AND KIDS FUND RUN

Fall is the perfect time to run a half Marathon and the ideal place to do it is in the beautiful village of Ellicottville. The EVL Halloween Half is a fun filled Halloween-themed event on Saturday Oct 24, 2015. The event will feature a Half Marathon, a 5K and a kid’s race for runners of all abilities! Participants are invited to run in costume and enjoy other Halloween related activities but is not mandatory.   There will be Age group and Costume awards given out!  Enjoy the Halloween fun and make a weekend trip with the race. 2015 MOUNTAIN BIKE EVENTS
2015 MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE SERIES

June and July 2015
 
The race series is located at Holiday Valley Resort throughout the summer. The races are on Wednesday nights on the Holiday Valley Race Loop; which is a 4 plus mile single track loop with challenging uphill climbs, exhilarating downhill runs with technical turns. There are a variety of racing categories. A rider can enter an individual night or sign up for the entire series!
 
Registration is at the Holiday Valley Mountain Sports Center from 5:00 pm to 6:15 pm on the race nights, with the races starting at 6:30 pm.

2015 RACCOON RALLY IN ALLEGANY STATE PARK

June 27 and June 28, 2015

The Raccoon Rally Cycling Festival Weekend featuring endless cycling fun and action! First timer or seasoned pro the Raccoon Rally has you covered. There are road races, short track races and trail races on Saturday and Sunday. There are race and event classes for all ages, both male and female. Chill with great friends, ride or compete in a variety of cycling disciplines over two great days. Or just come down and hang out in Allegany State Park's Superstore of all that is Bike! Local shops, great vendors, tasty eats, hills galore and a positive vibe of slow twitch fun working the pedals during the Annual Raccoon Rally Cycling Festival Weekend.

Road Races, Trials Competition, Kids Races and the blockbuster Cross Country Race on Sunday helps round out another great weekend in Allegany State Park. Great door prizes, custom awards, pumpin' beats and a fun, friendly atmosphere to live, eat & breathe gears. Pre-register to guarantee your place on any starting line or just come down on event-day to sign up. Everyone is welcome! Our generous volunteers and staff help support a weekend tradition and the Raccoon Rally is sure to send you home with sore quads, a pocket full of door prizes, a medal around your neck or a cell phone full of new friends. FEES: $30 per race or $50 for two races. The kids race at 2 pm on Sunday is free.



2015 6 HOURS OF POWER MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE

July 12, 2015


6 Hours of Power comes into town on Sunday, July 12th 2015 at the Holiday Valley Mountain Sports Center in Ellicottville, New York. During the 15th Annual Endurance Mountain Bike Race Solo and Two-Person tag-teams compete for awards and prizes on a world class 10-Mile lap featuring some of the finest mountain bike trails in the East. Hand tuned single track, demanding climbs perfect for passing, single track sections that will surely test every level of rider and two aid-stations powered by GU Energy on the course for re-fueling round out one of the most respectable mountain bike races of the year. Old friends, new friends, riders from throughout the nation celebrate what we were born to celebrate: Our own form of adrenalin during the greatest sport on earth! From 10am-4pm competitors vie to complete laps in hopes of placing for awards, or to finish with pride on a course fit for a king. Looking for an absolutely amazing, white knuckle, heart pounding single track? The 6 Hours of Power is organized by Heartrate up and has the following:

2015 FALL FESTIVAL MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE

October 11, 2015

This annual challenging mountainbike race is at the Holiday Valley Mountain Sports Resort Center. The race is 4-Mile laps of hammering featuring a stretched out first mile, blazing cool single track, white knuckle rock gardens and downhills plus axileration rides. Fall Festival is a great weekend and this is a great way to get your game on. The events is organized by Heartrate up.

ELLICOTTVILLE CYCLING EVENT WEEKEND  

June 5, 2015 to June 7, 2015
A road cycling weekend for level 2 and 3 riders who regularly ride 30 to 50 miles on rolling / steep hills. 3 guided rides, clinics, social activities and goody bags.
